Ponte Vedra High School junior wide receiver Cade Turner picked up Athlete of the Week honors after a breakout performance in the Sharks' Week 2 loss to Bishop Kenny.
Turner hauled in nine receptions for 158 yards and two touchdowns in the Aug. 28 game, according to High School on SI. High School on SI called Turner quarterback Carter Sole's No. 1 target in the contest. The Sharks fell 28-21 in overtime, according to Jacksonville.com.
The official Ponte Vedra Athletics account announced the honor on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
Sole had a big night of his own against Bishop Kenny, completing 62% of his passes for 417 yards and two touchdowns, per High School on SI. Through two games, the Sharks quarterback has thrown for 639 yards and five touchdowns, according to Florida Today.
Turner's season totals are just as impressive. He has 15 catches for 213 yards and four touchdowns through two games, per Florida Today.
The Sharks are 0-2.
Ponte Vedra opened the season with a 31-29 loss to University Christian in Week 1, then dropped the overtime game to Bishop Kenny in Week 2. On the defensive side, senior Carter Ottesen leads the Sharks with 21 tackles and four tackles for loss through two games, per Florida Today.
The schedule does not get easier. Ponte Vedra hosts Merritt Island on Friday, Sept. 4. The Mustangs enter at 2-0 and are ranked No. 10 in the Florida Class 3A Super 10 poll, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.
