Ponte Vedra Inn and Club is adding a nearly 95-foot winding water slide to its oceanfront Surf Club pool, according to permit plans filed with St. Johns County.
The slide, housed in a 32-inch fiberglass tube, will descend from a covered launch platform 16 feet, 11 inches above the ground, first reported by The St. Johns Citizen. The tower supporting the structure reaches about 29½ feet to the peak of its shade canopy. Drawings show a staircase climbing through a series of landings to the top.
A second, smaller open slide sits just 28 inches above the ground with a run of roughly eight feet. One sends riders on a twisting, enclosed drop from the tower; the other is a quick dip near pool level for younger swimmers.
The permit application lists the project's value at $430,653.93.
Weller Pools LLC is the listed contractor.
Bigger picture
The water slide is one piece of a broader overhaul at the Gate Hospitality-owned resort, which includes new Sports and Surf Clubs. A redevelopment site plan places the slide within the Surf Club pool area, across Ponte Vedra Boulevard from planned Sports Club facilities. The layout also shows tennis and pickleball courts, a playground and a parking garage.
The resort anticipates unveiling the completed enhancements in early 2027. Subsequent improvements could extend for 25 years and add 100,000 total square feet to the Inn and Club and 35,000 square feet to its sister property, The Lodge & Club Ponte Vedra Beach, according to an October 2024 Citizen report.
What members and guests face now
The Surf Club and its pools are closed during construction. Guests can use pools and dining amenities at The Lodge & Club Ponte Vedra Beach.
An interim Surf Club at the Atlantic House provides beach access, equipment rentals, restrooms, showers, a children's camp room and an outdoor deck. An interim gym operates across the street.
The resort also sought approval in October 2024 to build a 520-square-foot open-air tiki bar and a dedicated food truck space to keep members occupied during the renovation. A rendering depicted a food truck named "The Dune Buggy" in the resort's classic font.
