THE PLAYERS Championship returns to TPC Sawgrass March 8-14, 2027, part of a 36-tournament schedule the PGA TOUR announced Wednesday, Aug. 26.
The announcement came from PGA TOUR headquarters at 1 PGA TOUR Blvd., Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082. The 2027 FedExCup season spans Jan. 18 through Aug. 29, 2027, and marks the final year under the current FedExCup format before the TOUR transitions to a two-tiered Championship Series and Challenger Series model in 2028.
THE PLAYERS Championship, worth 750 FedExCup points, will be flanked by two Signature Events on the Florida Swing: the Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral (March 1-7) the week before and the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill (March 15-21) the week after.
The season features eight Signature Events overall. None will be held in consecutive weeks, Golf Channel reported, a change from 2026 when back-to-back Signature Events occurred twice.
The schedule's lone new addition is the Sompo Championship, a full-field event at Silverado Resort in Napa, California (July 26 through Aug. 1). Sompo joins the TOUR in a multi-year partnership and will become a Championship Series event in 2028.
Gone from the calendar are the Sony Open in Hawaii, the Rocket Classic in Detroit and the Puerto Rico Open. No Hawaii stops remain on the 2027 schedule. The Sony Open moved to PGA TOUR Champions, according to CBS Sports. Golf Channel reported the Puerto Rico Open is expected to become the first Challenger Series event in 2028.
The four major championships land at familiar venues: the Masters at Augusta National (April 5-11), the PGA Championship at PGA Frisco in Texas (May 17-23), the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach (June 14-20) and The Open Championship at St. Andrews (July 12-18). Pebble Beach pulls double duty, also hosting the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (Feb. 1-7) as a Signature Event.
The regular season wraps with the GO by Raymond James at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina (Aug. 2-8). That event was formerly the Wyndham Championship.
Three FedExCup Playoff events follow in consecutive weeks: the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis (Aug. 9-15), the BMW Championship at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey (Aug. 16-22), and the TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta (Aug. 23-29).
The TOUR Championship at East Lake will be the 21st edition of the FedExCup Playoffs and the last under the current format. PGA TOUR CEO Brian Rolapp said Tuesday, Aug. 25, that the new structure aims to simplify the competitive model for fans, increase consequence and strengthen the season-long narrative.
The full 2028 Championship Series schedule will be announced Feb. 22, 2027, during a live broadcast from PGA TOUR headquarters in Ponte Vedra Beach. The 2027 FedExCup Fall schedule has not yet been released.
