Firehouse Subs will open a restaurant at The Corner Markets at Nocatee on Crosswater Parkway, targeting late November.

The Jacksonville-born sandwich chain confirmed the new location at 1035 Crosswater Parkway on Wednesday, Sept. 23, according to Nocatee's community news site. The St. Johns Citizen first reported the address and late November timeline. A precise opening date and operating hours have not been announced.

Tim Foster, director of company operations for Firehouse Subs and a St. Johns County resident, will oversee the company-owned location. Foster has spent more than 15 years with the brand, working his way up from a restaurant staffer to his current role.

"We've had our eye on St. Johns County for a while now," Foster told the St. Johns Citizen. "Our guests kept telling us they wanted a Firehouse Subs closer to home, and Nocatee felt like the right fit."

The restaurant will serve the chain's signature steamed hot subs, including the Hook & Ladder and Firehouse Meatball.

The Corner Markets is a six-slot commercial strip across from Nocatee's Splash Water Park, between Starling at Nocatee and St. Johns County Fire Rescue Station No. 18. Ascension St. Vincent's plans to take three of the six storefronts for a primary care center, the St. Johns Citizen reported. The new Firehouse Subs will sit just a few storefronts from an actual county firehouse.

The restaurant's interior will feature firefighting equipment and photographs contributed by area fire departments. Joe Puskas, the chain's chief mural artist, is painting a custom piece for the location that depicts a local firetruck alongside the Splash Waterpark water slide.

Brothers Chris and Robin Sorensen, both former firefighters, founded Firehouse Subs in Jacksonville in 1994, opening their first restaurant on San Jose Boulevard. The chain is now part of Restaurant Brands International, which also owns Burger King, Popeyes and Tim Hortons.

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has awarded more than $112 million nationwide, including over $6.2 million to first responders in the greater Jacksonville area, according to the St. Johns Citizen. The Nocatee location will participate in the foundation's efforts to support first responders, according to Nocatee's community news site.

Grand opening details have not been released.
