Charlie Woods closed with a 1-under-par 71 on Sept. 6, to finish tied for eighth at the AJGA Junior Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach.
The 17-year-old posted a three-round total of 215 (71-73-71), finishing 1 under par at the Players Stadium Course. The result was up from his tied-for-31st finish in 2025.
Final round produces best-ever finish at the event
Woods made five birdies and four bogeys in the final round, according to GolfMagic. JP Lynch held the lead at 8 under with Brady Barnum one shot back at 7 under as the final groups finished play, though a weather delay interrupted the closing stretch.
Woods entered final round four shots off the lead
The son of two-time Players Championship winner Tiger Woods entered Sunday's round in a tie for 14th at even par, four shots behind co-leaders Sam Carraher, Giuseppe Puebla and Dawson Lew. A wire report from StateNews detailed his up-and-down second round Sept. 5: four birdies and five bogeys for a 1-over 73.
Woods struggled on the par-5s in Round 2, going 2 over on those holes. He parred the iconic 17th island green for a second straight day and birdied No. 18 to stay at even par through 36 holes.
Opening round included tournament's most talked-about shot
His first round on Sept. 4 produced the tournament's most talked-about shot. On the par-3 17th, Woods' tee shot landed on the footpath near the island green. Volunteers signaled the ball had stayed dry. From an awkward stance roughly 30 yards out, Woods chipped to four feet and converted the par putt.
Florida Times-Union golf reporter Garry Smits, in a Sept. 4 post on X, wrote that Woods had conjured up a par from the footpath at the TPC Sawgrass island green during the opening round.
Field featured 78 top-ranked junior golfers
The 20th edition of the Junior Players Championship featured 78 of the nation's top junior golfers, including 15 players ranked inside the AJGA top 25. Jack Mokris carded the low round of the second day, a 6-under 66.
Woods enters college commitment after tough season
Woods, a rising senior at The Benjamin School in North Palm Beach, entered the week ranked 306th in the AJGA rankings after a difficult 2026 season that included early exits at the U.S. Junior Amateur and the Junior PGA Championship. He has committed to play college golf at Florida State beginning in 2027.
