Ponte Vedra High School's Ocean of Sound marching band won its division and placed third overall at the FFCC regional at Fleming Island.

The band earned a score of 75.500 at the FFCC Outdoor regional held at Fleming Island High School on Oct. 10, according to a report in the PVHS Tiburon, the school's student newspaper. Weather later in the day forced organizers to cancel the finals portion of the competition. The Ocean of Sound's division win and third-place overall finish came from the preliminary round.

The percussion section scored 7.65, earning first place overall in percussion across all competing bands.

The program, directed by band director Daniel Lezcano, has built a long competitive record at the state level. The Ocean of Sound was the 2024 Florida Marching Band state runner-up and won Best Music in Class AAA that year, according to the school's fine arts page. The band earned Best Visual in Class AAA at the 2021 state championships.

The Ocean of Sound has reached the state finals four times since 2018, qualifying in 2018, 2021, 2022 and 2024. The program has also earned state runner-up titles in indoor percussion and winter guard, according to the fine arts page.

At the annual marching Music Performance Assessment (MPA), the band has collected superior ratings in eight of the last nine seasons evaluated, a streak running from 2016 through 2024.

The Oct. 22 student newspaper report identified a marching Music Performance Assessment at Bartram Trail High School as the band’s next event. It did not provide a date or results for that assessment.
