Ponte Vedra Beach residents looking to pitch in along the coastline can join the GTM Research Reserve's monthly beach cleanup Saturday, Oct. 24.

The volunteer effort runs from 9 to 11 a.m. at the GTM Research Reserve Visitor Center, 505 Guana River Rd. Participants pick up gloves and trash bags at the front desk at 9 a.m., then head to a designated beach location, according to the reserve's website. Volunteers can work for as long as they want within the two-hour window.

No registration is required. The reserve recommends bringing a hat, insect repellent, water and sunscreen.

The cleanup is one of GTM's recurring stewardship events, held the fourth Saturday of each month. Volunteers can also meet at the GTM Reserve Marineland Office in St. Augustine, according to the reserve's event calendar.

At 9 a.m., staff provide a brief orientation and instructions before directing volunteers to a specific beach, according to the reserve's cleanup page. Volunteers choose which beach location they prefer and set their own pace.

The GTM Research Reserve manages more than 75,000 acres of coastal habitat along the Guana and Tolomato rivers. The monthly cleanups give residents a hands-on way to help maintain the shoreline that runs through the reserve's Ponte Vedra Beach corridor.
